Usually, we want to support our friends no matter what. But that can be difficult when they drop a bombshell on you, leaving you wondering whether you should intervene or mind your own business. When one woman’s friend informed her that she had been cheating on her husband, she decided to tell him the truth.

Sharing Her Story

A twenty-five-year-old woman, known as No_Palpitation8307, took to the popular subreddit r/TwoHotTakes to post her story. Using fake names, she said, “Maddie has 3 kids with two different husbands. She was married to Troy and had a daughter (7f) and then she married Dale and had twins (3m). She married her current husband Alex (31M) a year ago and it has been rocky from the start.”

“Any ways, for the past few months Maddie has been going out with Dale weekly and staying out all night leaving Alex to watch the kids. I asked her if she and Dale were [“together”] and she said no. Two weeks ago she brought Dale over to my house and bragged about how they have been [“together”] for a month and how Alex has no idea,” she wrote.

After Maddie and Dale left, she decided to text Maddie and asked if she and Alex were getting a divorce. Matty responded that she wasn’t sure. “I then asked her if they stayed married if she would tell him about Dale and she said no. It made me very uncomfortable and I told her that but she brushed me off. Alex supports her and her kids financially because Maddie has health issues that causes her to be unable to work.”

“A few days ago Alex reached out to me and bluntly asked if Maddie was [seeing] Dale and I did not want to lie so I told him everything. Well, Maddie found out and blew up on me and then blocked me on everything. When I told my mom about all of this she told me it was none of my business and I should not have said anything which is why I think I may be [in the wrong]. I just know that if I were Alex, I would have wanted to know,” she said.

Supportive Comments

Other Redditors rushed to the comments to share their opinions. Choosychews commented, “You’ve known this woman for two years. Clearly, she’s not the type of person you want to be friends with and you followed through on your morals. She was flaunting her cheating in your face, and expected you to lie for her. That’s not a friend. Friends don’t ask you to betray your values.”

AdEuphoric1184 said, “He obviously had his suspicions and reached out to you. You have morals and did what you and many others feel would be right. It’s not like you went running to Alex the moment the door closed behind them. In my personal opinion, if you keep quiet over something like this, you’re okay with cheating. I’m the type who would have told Maddie I was disgusted and told her to tell her husband or I will.”
